MCE Partners with Bea Gaddy Family Centers to Feed Those in Need

For over 30 years, Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE) has partnered with Bea Gaddy Family Centers, a nonprofit community based organization that assists its neighbors with food and other items, in a continued effort to help feed those in need in the Greater Baltimore area.

Carrying on a Tradition

MCE’s program participants are proud to be part of this wonderful community event year after year. This year, MCE’s Meat Plant in Hagerstown, MD prepared over 200 turkeys that were donated to the Bea Gaddy Family Centers by various grocery stores in the Baltimore area. Our participants are grateful for this meaningful opportunity to give back to society.

How are the Turkeys Prepared?

MCE’s program participants begin the preparation of the turkeys by defrosting, deboning, and parting them by hand. The turkeys are then injected with liquid turkey seasoning and cooked in smokehouses. Once this process has been completed, the turkeys are transported to Bea Gaddy Family Centers in Baltimore.

About the Program

MCE provides a two-year training program in partnership with the Maryland Department of Labor (MDOL) and Hagerstown Community College to adequately train the individuals who participate.

The program consists of 288 classroom hours and 4,000 on the job training hours. At the completion of the program, participants receive an apprenticeship certificate reinforcing all that they have learned including hard skills, soft skills, work ethics, and the importance of teamwork.

MCE’s Mission

Maryland Correctional Enterprises is committed to transforming lives through mentoring, providing marketable skills, and instilling positive work ethics to contribute to safer communities. We accomplish that by providing structured programming and various Reentry Resources for our participants to increase their employability upon release.
